Bruins vs. Red Wings 4/20/14 W 4-1

What a game for the B’s! As the Bruins tie up the series 1-1, Im feeling a lot more confident in the Bruins looking like the playoff threat they were last year. This was a great game due to the fact that the B’s didn’t dig themselves into a 2-0 hole and we got to see some new faces make some big plays. Justin Florek was my favorite new Bruin to watch during tonight and Reilly Smith came up big as well. Both players found pucks past Jimmy Howard and were extremely aggressive when it came to the forecheck. What I enjoyed about Justin Florek is the fact that the man was literally putting constant pressure on the Wings defense which in return led to his goal. The Red Wings had an extremely tough time getting the puck past the neutral zone and into Bruins territory. Florek took advantage of these broken up offensive Wing plays and applied the pressure. A failed offensive push from Red Wings forward Tomas Tatar results in a broken play recovered by Bruins defenseman Dougie Hamilton. Hamilton flipped the rink by shooting the puck up into Jimmy Howard’s territory. Howard came out to play the puck and poorly attempted to pass it to one of his defenseman. The pass missed his target and Florek came to recover the puck and put it in the empty net. What I did not enjoy about this game is Kevin Millar ladies and gentleman. That man cannot stay out of the penalty box. With 10:55 into the second period, Millar picked up a crosschecking penalty against David Legwand. Loui Eriksson also found himself in the penalty box with a hooking call. Both of these penalties took place when the B’s only led by one goal during the middle of the 2nd. Penalty time allows the Wings to come back and the fact that these players selfishly took this penalties is poor. All-in-all good game though and Im just glad we tied the series and are going into Game 3 with home ice.

PLAYOFFS Bruins vs. Red Wings 4/18/14 L 1-0

Finally! Game 1 of the best of 7 series against the Red Wings during the firs round of the NHL playoffs. In my hockey opinion, this loss really doesn’t mean that much for the Bruins at all. The Bruins didn’t have Kevin Millar and Matt Bartkowski due to illnesses, thus our defensive line really lacked. Reilly Smith had a lot of chances to put some loose pucks past Jimmy Howard but unfortunately couldn’t capitalize. The thing that really made me nervous for future games though was the fact that the Bruins didn’t utilize the home ice advantage. Usually, the Bruins do an exceptional job of taking advantage of these situations and in my opinion, this is what led them to the Stanley Cup title in 2011. Hopefully the B’s can rally back and get a win to tie the series at 1-1 but Im not to worried. Once Kevin Millar comes back on the ice, which should be at any moment, our defense will be back together and its all about Lucic, Krejci, and Iginla getting their act together.
